MS Dhoni became first captain to play in four tied ODIs : MS Dhoni on 25 January 2014 became the first captain to be involved in four tied One Day International matches. Indian cricket team captain achieved this feat in Auckland, while playing third ODI match against New Zealand.
PAN allotment process to undergo change from 3 February 2014 : PAN (Permanent Account Number) allotment process will undergo a change from 3 February 2014. The official release mentioned that an applicant of PAN will have to submit self-attested copies of Proof of Identity (POI), Proof of Address (POA) and Date of Birth (DOB) documents. The applicant will also have to produce the original documents for verification at the counter of PAN facilitation centres.
Rajan defends rate hike, says cut wouldn’t have helped banks : RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, surprised markets with a rate hike, defended the move saying a rate cut would not have impacted either banks or borrowers and that bringing down retail prices is the key to sustainable growth.”If we cut policy rates, it won’t have any impact on banks’ cost of funds or lending rates for borrowers,” Rajan told reporters in the customary post-policy press conference.
Kohli can break Tendulkar’s record : Former India Test cricketer Chetan Chauhan feels Virat Kohli has the ability to break batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record in both Tests and ODIs.Talking to mediapersons on the occasion of the inauguration of a cricket match between veterans on Monday, Chauhan, who was the chief guest, said the way Kohli had been performing in recent months it appeared he could overtake Tendulkar.He said except for Kohli and Dhoni, there were no consistent performers in the Indian batting line-up.
RBI raises repo rate by 25 bps to 8%: In a surprising move, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has raised the repo rate to 8%, as against the expectation that he would keep interest rates unchanged.RBI today decided to increase the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility by 25 basis points from 7.75 per cent to 8.0 per cent . Consequently, reverse repo rate will now be at 7 per cent. There is no change in CRR at 4 per cent.
Tunisia finally passes new democratic constitution : Tunisia’s national assembly approved the country’s new constitution on Sunday in one of the last steps to establishing full democracy three years after the uprising that toppled autocrat Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. Just before the constitution vote, Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa appointed a caretaker cabinet as part of a deal to end a crisis between Tunisia’s Islamist party and its secular opposition until new elections this year.Tunisia’s new constitution and progress contrasts sharply with messy transitions in Libya, Egypt and Yemen which are still caught up in turmoil after ousting their own long-standing leaders in 2011 revolts and uprisings.
Egypt’s Army Chief Fattah al-Sisi promoted to Field Marshal : Egypt’s army chief Gen Fattah al-Sisi on 27 January 2014 was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal (the highest in the military). His promotion came amid speculation that the military strongman way readying for the Presidential bid. Fattah al-Sisi is the person who ousted the Islamist President, Mohammed Morsi. The presidential decree of promoting the 59-year-old Sisi to the rank of Field Marshalwas issued by the interim president Adly Mansour. 4th ODI Newzeland Beat India By 7 Wickets : India their second consecutive series defeat overseas as New Zealand rode on Ross Taylor’s unbeaten century to thrash the visitors by seven wickets in the fourth one-dayer and take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match.hasing 279 for victory, the Kiwis reached 280 for three in 48.1 overs with Taylor scoring a match-winning 127-ball 112 not out to take the hosts home with 11 balls to spare. Earlier, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja had produced magnificent late onslaught after opener Rohit Sharma scored a half-century, to guide India to 278 for five in their allotted 50 overs.
