Revisit Aircraft Act 1934 to bring out comprehensive bill: Parliamentary panel : A Parliamentary Panel on Transport, Tourism and Culture headed by Sitaram Yechury on 6 February 2014 submitted its report on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of India Bill, 2013 to Parliament. The parliamentary panel has asked the government to come out with a comprehensive Bill after revisiting the Aircraft Act 1934. It has been suggested to revisiting the Aircraft Act 1934 because it felt that the Act is too old to tackle the emerging problems in the aviation sector.
Vishwanath Tripathi selected for the Vyas Samman 2013 :Vishwanath Tripathi, the eminent Hindi writer has been selected for the prestigious Vyas Samman for the year 2013. He has been chosen for his memoir ‘Vyomkesh Darvesh’ that is a biography of the noted Hindi scholar Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi. Tripathi, who is 82-year-old has around 20 publications by his name that includes memoirs, novel and poetry collection. Surya Prasad Dikshit, the Hindi litterateur headed the selection committee for the award.
Union Government hiked FRP of Sugarcane by 10 rupees per quintal for 2014-15 : The Union Government on 6 February 2014 approved the increase in the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane by 10 rupees per quintal for 2014-15 marketing season (October – September). As a result, FRP of sugarcane will increase from 210 ruppes per quintal to 220 rupees per quintal. This decision of hike in price was taken during a meet of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in New Delhi. FRP is the minimum price that has been legally guaranteed to the sugarcane farmers, whereas, the state government has the right to fix Statutory Advised Price (SAP) as their own prices.
Tendulkar and Warne confirmed to play on 200th Anniversary of Lords : Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne were confirmed to lead for a limited-over match to mark the 200th anniversary of Lords Cricket Ground. The announcement was made on 6 February 2014.Tendulkar will lead the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the owners of the Lords Cricket ground, while Warne will head a ‘Rest of the World’ side. The match will be held at Lords Cricket Ground on 5 July 2014. Sachin Tendulkar last played in such fixtures was in 1998 when he scored a hundred. The 1998 fixture was played in the memory of Lady Diana, the Princess of Wales. In 2010, he was awarded Honorary Member of MCC.
Infosys to open new delivery center in Araraquara, Brazil : Infosys announced to open a new delivery center in Araraquara, Brazil on 6 February 2014. With this new center, Infosys and its subsidiaries will further expand their footprints in Latin America.The new 100-seat center in Brazil will initially house 25 employees and provide services in SAP Application Management services to Citrosuco, the leading orange juice producer of World.The 550 square meteroffice will be located in Edificio Vitoria, the premier commercial building in Araraquara.
Marco Lambertini appointed Director-General of WWF International : The global conservation organisation, WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) on 6 February 2014 appointed Marco Lambertini as Director-General (DG) of the WWF International. His new role as the DG will start from 1 May 2014.At the time of this appointment, he was serving Bird Life International as its chief executive. He will succeed James P Leape, who was appointed as the DG of WWFInternational in 2005.
Google agreed to negotiate with EU over Anti-trust case : Google Inc agreed to negotiate with European Union (EU) over Anti-trust case on 5 February 2014. The agreement was announced by the Federal Trade commission of the US.Under a tentative deal with European Commission regulators, Google agreed to tweak the way it presents searchresults in Europe. The deal reached will help address concerns in EU that Google is abusing its dominance in onlinesearch to favour its own services at the expense of rivals. However, Google would not pay a fine under the agreement.
President of Israel Shimon Peres set a new Guinness World record : President of Israel Shimon Peres set a new Guinness World Record on 6 February 2014. He delivered the largest online civics class in the world. He delivered the classes using Cisco’s advanced technology.The classes will be conducted from the company headquarters in Netanya.Over 6500 students in 215 classes across the country from Jerusalem, Beersheva, Tel Aviv, Kuseife, Ofakim, Dimona, Hadera, Tiveria, Taibeh, Nahariya, and other communities will attend it. The participants in the online class will include Jewish and Arab students together.
