Harish Rawat to be new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand : Harish Rawat will be the new Chief Minster of Uttrarakhan. He has been elected leader of the state Congress Legislative Party at its meeting in Dehradun today. This was announced by party observer Janardan Dwivedi after the meeting. The election was done in the presence of central party observers Ambika Soni, Janardan Dwivedi and Ghulam Nabi Azad. The new Chief Minister will take oath at the Raj Bhawan.
Al Maktoum International Airport (Dubai) to be the largest airport in the world : It will be able to handle 160 million people alongwith 12 million tonnes of cargo annually when complete.The massive airport, named after the former ruler of Dubai, will cover an area of 220 square km.
US Federal Aviation Administration downgrades aviation safety rating of Indian carriers : They have been penalized for not being in compliance with the international standards for aviation safety oversight.Jet Airways and state-run Air India, the only two carriers operating between two countries, will now face extra checks and are barred from increasing the number of flights to the United States.
Government approves amendments in the Central List of OBC : Government approves amendments in the Central List of OBC(other backward classes) for 13 States and 3 Union Territories. The proposed changes will enable persons belonging to these castes/communities to avail benefits of reservation.The amendments will notify 115 changes recommended by the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
NTPC threatens to cut power supply in Delhi from Feb 11 : i. NTPC Ltd on Saturday issued a notice to BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) threatening to regulate the electricity supply from February 11. ii. This may impact electricity supply to over 32 lakh customers spread across southern, eastern, central and western parts of Delhi.
India defeat Chinese Taipei in Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group-I : India have taken a 3-Nil winning lead over Chinese Taipei in the Asia-Oceania Group-I Davis Cup Tennis tie. At Indore today, India won the second Singles when Somdev Devvarman beat Ti Chen, 6-7, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2, 9-7. The match had remained unfinished yesterday due to bad light. Later, the duo of Rohan Bopanna and Saketh Myneni brushed aside the challenge of Hsien-Yin Peng and Tsing Hua Yang , 6-0, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 to win the Doubles. India will now take on Korea in April, the winner of which will play in World Group play-offs.
Narendra Modi free to apply for American visa: BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was free to apply for an American visa and a decision on it would be made on the process that we have in place, said a senior US official. We said he (Modi) is free to apply for a visa and we’ll make a decision based onthe process that we have in place here,” State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters at her daily news conference on Friday.
Growth rate for the year 2012-13 : Government revised growth rate for the year 2012-13 down to 4.5 per cent from the earlier estimated 5 per cent. 2009-10: Both stands at 8.6%.2010-11: Revised down to 8.9% from estimated 9.3%.2011-12: Revised down to 6.2% from estimated 6.7%.
