SC refuses to examine PIL on Army regiments:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL challenging the classification of regiments in Army after caste, religion and region after entertaining it for more than a year during which it had even asked solicitor general Mohan Parasaran to seek the views of the Centre. Deciding to abruptly close the hearing on the PIL filed by Rewari-based retired doctor I S Yadav, a bench of Justices T S Thakur and C Nagappan said, “We do not want to rock the Army’s boat.”
Probe Aseemanand’s links with RSS: CPM
CPM on Tuesday said Aseemanand’s revelation of his links with the top leadership of RSS while planning a series of bomb blasts was a serious matter and needed to be probed by National Investigation Agency (NIA). Aseemanand is an accused in terror strikes on Samjhauta Express and the Ajmer blasts. “The explosive material revealed in the article based on interviews given by Aseemanand to a magazine raises very serious questions which require further investigation. Aseemanand has revealed his links with the top leadership of the RSS while planning the series of terrorist bomb blasts on civilian targets,” CPM’s politburo said in a statement.
Militants kill nine anti-Taliban militia in Pakistan:
Pakistani police have said that militants have killed nine members of an anti-Taliban militia in the northwestern city of Peshawar. Police official Jamal Khan said some 25 militants attacked the militia chief’s house on the city outskirts on Wednesday, killing him and eight of his relatives. He said that on February 1, the militants killed the chief’s son and two other people after they shot dead a militant commander. Wednesday’s incident comes a day after assailants threw hand grenades inside a cinema in the city, killing 13 people. No one claimed responsibility for either attack.
Pakistani Taliban have been waging a bloody war against the government in a bid to overthrow it and enforce their hard brand of Islamic Shariah.
IPL auction: Daredevils buy Kevin Pietersen, Murali Vijay
Delhi Daredevils bought maverick former England captain Kevin Pietersen for a whopping Rs.9 crore in the players’ auction for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Wednesday.The auction list of 514 players features 219 capped players (169 Indians and 50 overseas players) and 292 uncapped players (255 Indians and 37 overseas players).There are 16 marquee players and they have been divided in two sets of eight each.There are 30 players, including 11 Indians, with a maximum base price of Rs.2 crore (US $320,000 approximate)
IPL auction: Royal Challengers buy Yuvraj for Rs.14 crores
India’s flamboyant all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a staggering Rs.14 crores in the players’ auction for the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League ( IPL) on Wednesday.Among the first set of eight marquee players, Yuvraj, who was earlier with the disbanded Pune Warriors, fetched the highest price. He was followed by maverick former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was sold to Delhi Daredevils for a whopping Rs.9 crore.
