Russia, China skip security council talks on Syria:
Russia is blocking Western efforts to push through a security council resolution that would raise the prospect of sanctions against Syria unless the government gives unrestricted access to deliver humanitarian aid. Russia and China, which support the Syrian government, have blocked three previous Western-backed resolutions that would have pressured President Bashar Assad to end the now three-year-old civil war. The draft resolution expresses “outrage at the unacceptable and escalating level of violence and the death of over 136,000 people in Syria, including more than 11,000 children.”

India’s Olympic suspension lifted:
The IOC lifted the 14-month old ban on India after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) barred charge-framed officials from its fresh election held on Sunday in which World Squash Federation chief and younger brother of BCCI boss N. Srinivasan, N. Ramachandran, was elected as the president.“The IOC has informed us through telephone that the ban on India has been lifted,” newly-elected IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta told PTI.The decision comes after the IOC’s three observers for the elections left Indian shores “satisfied with the IOA elections promising to submit a “favourable report to the IOC President.”

Expressing concern over repeated disruptions in Parliament, President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday urged Parliamentarians to introspect and follow sound parliamentary conventions and rules. He said Parliament functioned through debate, dissension and decision, not through disruptions.Speaking after unveiling photographs of presidents of the Central Legislative Assembly and portraits of the former Speakers of the Lok Sabha in the Central Hall of Parliament, the President said Parliament, like other organs of the government, was not sovereign and owed its origin and authority to the Constitution and derived its functional responsibility from, and discharged its responsibilities within the framework of the Constitution.

Delhi govt orders FIR against Mukesh Ambani, Moily and Murli Deora over gas prices:
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched a fresh offensive against Reliance Industries limited accusing the company of creating artificial shortage of gas in the country and conspiring to raise its price.FIR will also be lodged against VK Sibbal, former DG hydrocarbons.Reliance had initially agreed to supply gas to utility NTPC Ltd at about $2.3 per million British thermal units (mBtu) for about 17 years, Kejriwal said.But price of gas from the D6 block was fixed at $4.2 per mBtu when Deora was oil minister.

China and Taiwan to hold historic talks:
China and Taiwan will hold their first government-to-government talks on Tuesday since they split 65 years ago after a brutal civil war — a symbolic yet historic move between the former bitter rivals.
“The current interaction across the Taiwan Strait is quite positive,” said Jia Qingguo, a professor of international studies at Peking University. Taiwan, on Monday, said that it would raise the issue of press freedom with China during the talks.

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha general election, Jharkhand Peoples’ Party (JPP) has forged an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in the state. Announcing the pact in the presence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Jharkhand observer, JPP president Surya Singh Besra said his party will support the candidates of AAP in the LS election slated for April-May this year.”JPP has agreed to support and campaign for the AAP candidates in 30 constituencies spread across three states, including neighbouring Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh,” said Besra in a joint press conference addressed by AAP functionary Shailendra Singh. Besides, the 14 LS seats in Jharkhand, JPP will support AAP’s candidates in six LS constituencies in Bengal, eight in Odisha and two in Chhattisgarh, respectively where tribal voters have pockets of influence.
