- Delhi police lathicharge AAP protesters : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with his cabinet colleague Manish Sisodia at his dharna demanding action against police personnel, near Rail Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.A scuffle broke out between policemen and AAP as the protestors jumped the barricade. One policeman is reportedly injured after protesters pelted stones at the protest venue.Amid chaos, there have been reports that the Congress might reconsider its support to Aam Aadmi Party.
- After FB, Google buys startup with Indianlink: After Facebook’s acquisition of Bangalore-based Little Eye Labs earlier this month, it’s Google that has now bought a three-year-old startup that had two Indians Vish Ramarao and Naveen Jamal as co-founders and offices in Bangalore and California. The startup, Impermium, had a third co-founder Mark Risher.Jamal was based in Bangalore and looked after the office here, while Ramarao and Risher were based in California. All three had previously worked together in Yahoo and came out of it in 2010 to found Impermium
- India maintain number two spot in Test rankings : India continued to hold their number two spot behind South Africa in the latest ICC Test rankings issued on Monday.India with 117 points are followed by Australia (111) while leaders South Africa have 131.
- At 7.7%, China posts lowest growth in 14 yrs : China’s economy grew at 7.7% in 2013 resulting in the lowest rate of growth in gross domestic product in 14 years. The low growth in the world’s second largest economy caused serious anxiety across the globe and pushed down prices of Asian stocks. The country’s National Bureau of Statistics, which released the report card, said the slow growth was caused by a “complex and severe situation” at home and abroad.
- ‘Sunanda died of drug overdose’ : The preliminary post-mortem report of Sunanda Pushkar the wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor who was found dead in a hotel room here last Friday has indicated that it was a case of drug overdose.AIIMS sources said that traces of chemicals found in her body indicated consumption of some anti-depressant and that there were nearly a dozen injuries on the body. The SDM would now wait for the toxicology report and other findings to ascertain if the overdose did lead to death.
- Sensex advances 46 points : The BSE benchmark index Sensex on Tuesday rose further by 46 points on sustained buying by funds in bluechips led by banks ahead of the RBI monetary policy meet amid a firming global trend.The 30-share index, which had gained 142 poins in the previous session, rose by 46.07 points, or 0.22 per cent, to close at 21,251.12 points. It touched a day’s high of 21,302.52 points.The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 9.85 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 6,313.80 points.
- Bouchard, Li into Australian Open semifinals : Eugenie Bouchard has reached the semifinals in her first trip to the Australian Open, beating 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 on Tuesday to set up a showdown with fourth-seeded Li Na.The 19-year-old Bouchard, the first Canadian to reach the Australian Open semifinals, played with composure against former No. 1-ranked Ivanovic, who started the season with a title at Auckland, New Zealand, and produced a major upset to eliminate top-ranked Serena Williams in the fourth round here.
- New smartphone app can track your lost wallet! : A new smartphone app that tracks the location of your lost wallet using a chip has been developed in the US.The SmartWallit chip is a revolutionary device that prevents people from leaving their wallet behind or losing it, its makers claim. The device connects with your smartphone through bluetooth and works with an app which records the time and place the wallet was lost. In case the wallet goes out of range of the app, a warning message will flash on your smartphone screen, displaying the last location where the wallet was used.
